Being open minded is incredibly important. Especially today when it’s so easy to fall into a habit of only reading, watching, and listening to things that support the same viewpoints we hold.

We are living in an echo chamber of our own creation and may not even realize it.

At its core, “open-minded” means being receptive to new information and perspectives. It’s one of the best tools we have to help us grow.

And it happens to be one of the key pillars of #Follow Friday.

Being open-minded allows us to see the world in a more inclusive way, and makes us more curious and comfortable with being challenged. And perhaps most importantly, open-mindedness leads to greater empathy and humility.

Open Minded = Inclusive

#FollowFriday is about creating an environment where people of all backgrounds can come together and feel like they’re part of something bigger. When we’re inclusive, we see the value in diversity and difference. We understand that everyone has something unique to offer, and that by working together we can create something even stronger.

By being open-minded, we become more aware of the perspectives of others and learn to value them in the process. We also become more comfortable with differences.

Simply put, open-mindedness creates a foundation for inclusion. And when we’re able to be inclusive, we create a more just and equitable world for everyone.

Open Minded = Curious

One of the best things about being open-minded is that it leads to greater curiosity. When we’re receptive to new information and perspectives, we’re more likely to be curious about the world around us. And when we’re curious, we’re more likely to learn and grow.

Think about it this way: If you’re closed off to new ideas, you’re not going to be very interested in learning about them. But if you’re open-minded, you want to know more. This is because you understand that there’s value in learning about things that are different from what you already know.

Being curious also makes us more flexible and adaptable. We live in a constantly changing world, and the ability to adapt is crucial. If we’re not curious, we’ll get stuck in our ways and find it difficult to change. But if we’re curious, we’re more likely to be open to new experiences and ideas.

Open Minded = Challenged

If you’re not used to being challenged, it can be difficult to handle at first. But it’s important to remember that being challenged is a good thing. It means that we’re being pushed outside of our comfort zones and forced to think in new ways.

Of course, it’s not always easy to accept challenges. We might feel defensive or like we’re being attacked. But if we can step back and see the situation from a different perspective, we’ll realize that being challenged is an opportunity to practice empathy.

In order to be open-minded, we need to be willing to be challenged. We need to understand that it’s okay to not know everything, and that there’s value in learning from others.

Open Minded = Empathetic

Open-mindedness leads to greater empathy because it allows us to understand the perspectives of others. When we’re receptive to those viewpoints, we’re able to understand them better. This helps us connect with others on a deeper level and creates a sense of unity.

When we have empathy for others, we’re also more likely to act with compassion. We may not always agree with the people around us, but if we can see things from their perspective, we’re more likely to treat them with kindness and respect.

Open Minded = Humble

Open-mindedness also leads to greater humility. When we’re open to new perspectives, we realize that we don’t know everything.

We understand that there’s always more to learn, and that we can’t possibly know everything about the world. This realization can be humbling, but it’s also incredibly freeing. It allows us to let go of our ego and approach life with a sense of wonder and curiosity.

Being open-minded doesn’t mean that we have to agree with everyone. It doesn’t mean that we have to put our opinions or values aside. It simply means that we are receptive to the opinions and values of others.
